Season 4 of Rick and Morty started off with the crew getting back to basics.
During the premier, we saw a return to form in the way of a more episodic approach to story telling. Morty himself gives a nod to returning to classic Rick and Morty adventures and laying off political commentary, although a comment about fascist being the new default had a bit of a “current landscape” political tone.
We finally get to see Mr. Meeseeks in all his multiple personas glory as Morty, powered by an ability to see a very specific portion of his future, becomes a bad to the bone version of himself. Jerry even references his son becoming “Akira” while pronouncing both “Akira” and “Anime” correctly as only a Jerry would.
Overall the episode was a great start and a promise to return to better days where plot lines were thin and antics were high.
